Overview

The Directory of Light Railways of Great Britain is a record in an easy to access format of all of the light railway companies who sought to build a light railway in Great Britain. The directory includes light railways that were approved and subsequently built, light railways that were approved but not built, light railways that were submitted to the Light Railway Commissioners but rejected and light railways that were gazetted but not submitted to the Commissioners. The directory includes the route of each railway, estimated costings and all of the key dates. Gauge is included and axle loadings are also included where available The directory is laid out in alphabetical order for easy reference. In an appendix, Acts of Parliament relating specifically to light Railways is included, as well as information on the Light Railway Commissioners themselves.
