He did postdoctoral studies at the University of Sussex, was a Visiting Scholar at Oxford University in 1998-1999, and has lived and worked in Asia and the Middle East. He has authored 21 books and over 240 articles in the social and behavioral sciences, humanities, and teacher education. He has been awarded five Fulbright scholarships, one each to Malaysia, Cyprus, Denmark, Indonesia, and Pakistan. He is past President of International Studies of the American Educational Research Association that in 2008 awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award. This is his first novel.
