DESTINED TO LIVE is a testament to the fact that even when all odds are stacked against you, life can still find a way. The Story narrates the harrowing experiences of a Biafran soldier during the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War of 1967-1970. It also recalls the agonizing ordeal of an emotionally distraught family waiting for their soldier-son whose fate had become uncertain. From the upheavals that shattered their once serene family life in Kano, Northern Nigeria, to the uneasy calm that pervaded the East upon their tumultuous return, the Idemba family suffered immensely. The challenges of adjusting to their new situation revealed the complexities of the human character that could not have been imagined especially from among those who profess kinship. The call to arms at the outbreak of hostilities offered Dan Idemba the opportunity to join the army, and to fully express his innate adventurous tendencies. His miraculous survival against all odds, in near-impossible situations throughout the war, led him to believe he was indeed the human replica of the proverbial cat with nine lives.
