Overview

The volume deals with the tropical doctor Albert Schweitzer, a European scientist with an international network. The focus is on his biographical-medical career, the therapy of individual tropical diseases and the claim to scientificness in everyday medical practice. So far it is hardly known in Albert Schweitzer research that due to the between Hamburg and Lambarene's existing research network, clinical trials or human and animal experiments were carried out in order to be able to care for the patients according to the valid medical standard.
