Overview

When an American film crew arrived in the sleepy village of Eakring in 1942 to make a Hollywood blockbuster, it caused great excitement amongst the locals who had been worn down by nearly 3 years of austerity due to the war effort on the home front, and piqued the interest of the land army girls billeted in the nearby Kelham Hall. However, the arrival of this glamorous crew stirred up old rivalries and resentment amongst the local men and engendered mistrust and suspicion between the inhabitants, old and new, in the village. When one of the Americans was murdered after a night out in the local pub, it would take all of the ingenuity of the local bobby to unpick the secrets and lies to uncover the true motive for the crime. Was his murder a crime of passion or connected in some way to the war effort? Finding that more than one person had both motive and opportunity, PC Hopkins realised he was out of his depth, especially when a local man subsequently went missing in mysterious circumstances. Setting up an incident room in the local pub PC Hopkins had to wade through the plethora of evidence to uncover the true motive for the crime. Was it a crime of passion or connected to national security? Who had both motive and opportunity, and what secrets were the film crew keeping, and why were the two strangers visiting the village? Calling on the support of his senior officer, the two police officers unpicked the clues to find the true motive of the crime to bring the perpetrator to justice.
