OverviewMurder at the drive-in? It's the summer 1977 in Santa Raymunda, a sleepy town in Southern California, and teen detectives Addie, Gina, and Rachel spend their nights clocking hours at the drive-in watching Star Wars. During the last showing after midnight, a badly beaten local young man collapses in front of the teen's car, and the police are immediately at the scene. The teens are challenged to grow and change as friends, daughters, and young women navigating the constricting norms of the times and their desires for independence and power in the world, as well as solving the murder. Table of ContentsReviewsIn this second book of the series, Death at the Drive-In delivers a rollercoaster of mystery that successfully references the first book while working seamlessly as a stand-alone story. (...) Andrea Carter has masterfully created likable and relatable characters that left me rooting for the hero from both a crime-fighting and feminist perspective. While maneuvering the intricacies of a small California southern town in the 1970s with all its rumors, characters, and history, the three teen detectives, otherwise known as the Crusaders, deal with the perils of adolescence including romance, the questioning of power, and self-discovery. While being a YA novel, the book is engaging for adult readers due to its strong story and characters. I look forward to more adventures with the three heroic teen detectives.
