Overview

Volume 17 (=334 pages) is in honor of Mary Midgley (1919-2018) and Iris Murdoch (1919-1999). Please note that a large majority of the chapter contributions mention neither Mary Midgley nor Iris Murdoch. The chapters (by professional philosophers and other scholars/professionals) are directed to issues related to death, life extension, and anti-death, broadly construed. Most of the contributions consist of scholarship unique to this volume. As was the case with all previous volumes in the Death And Anti-Death Series By Ria University Press, the anthology includes an Abstracts section that serves as an extended table of contents. Volume 17 includes fourteen chapters, as follows: ------CHAPTER ONE: Euclid, Plato And Lonergan: Reflections On The Soul's Fate And Human Mortality (by Giorgio Baruchello and Garrett Barden) Pages 27-68.------CHAPTER TWO: Death, Depression And A Passing Kestrel (by Stephen R. L. Clark) Pages 69-92.------CHAPTER THREE: Reversal Of Epigenetic Aging And Immunosenescent Trends In Humans (by Gregory M. Fahy et al.) Pages 93-118.------CHAPTER FOUR: Ideal City Revisited (by Vladimir Kalugin) Pages 119-130.------CHAPTER FIVE: Relating Mary Midgley's Insights To Recent Social Psychological Theory And Research On Humans' Relationships With Other Animals (by Uri Lifshin and Jeff Greenberg) Pages 131-162.------CHAPTER SIX: On The Timing Issue (by EnChih Lin and Jack Lee) Pages 163-174.------CHAPTER SEVEN: Mary Midgley And Iris Murdoch: The Owl And The Phoenix (by Margaret M. Marcum and James A. Marcum) Pages 175-192.------CHAPTER EIGHT: From Bad To Good: Victor Frankenstein And The Modern Quest For The Secrets Of Life (by R. Michael Perry) Pages 193-222.------CHAPTER NINE: Highlights Of The Cryonics Symposium International (July 27, 2019 - Hollywood, Florida) (by R.
