OverviewAlthough raised as the youngest of nine children on a farm in Montana where sibling competition was a way of life, the author's desire to compete did not carry over into the classroom, that is, until the humiliation associated with a simple 6th grade writing assignment altered the course of his life. Whether intended or not, this humiliation redirected the author's innate competitive spirit toward classroom activities, eventually to accomplish something meaningful. The path to this goal was a maze filled with multiple dead ends, seemingly leading nowhere, as the author navigated his way through life. In the course of time, these side tracks would provide stepping stones leading to a discovery that would save the lives of many thousands of the world's children.
