Overview

A wonderfully charming collection of poems about being out and about, selected and illustrated by award-winning picture book creator Simon James. This is a book of small poems all about seizing the day. Whether it's the joy of sledging in the snow or the feeling of warm sand under your feet, the quiet contemplation of a pink azalea bush or a guppy in a jar, the pleasure of sleeping outdoors under the stars or simply staying in and bouncing on the bed. Carefully brought together by acclaimed author-illustrator Simon James, Days Like This is beautifully illustrated with an expressive line and watercolours which portray an everyday world overflowing with wonder and possibility. A collection of poems to read and revel in from beginning to end.

Subtitled a collection of small poems, this is a gentle evocation of childhood experiences. Poems about going on adventures, fishing, on the beach, camping out, are mixed with some wonderfully succinct philosophical observations - 'Tomorrow's never there./It always runs away./Every time I catch it/It says it's called Today.' The sketchy watercolour illustrations fill the tall pages with life, drawing the reader into the intimate and special space of each poem. (5+ years) (Kirkus UK)
