OverviewThis work represents the twelfth monograph in the Aircraft with History series, published by Aviation Art & History, and is dedicated to documenting the historical and operational career of the Dassault Mirage M-5MA Elkan No. 714 of the Chilean Air Force. Across twenty-four pages, the monograph rigorously examines the aircraft's construction background, its extensive early service with the Belgian Air Force, its role as the prototype for the MirSIP project, and its subsequent incorporation into the Chilean Air Force inventory. For nearly two decades, the aircraft operated in Belgium as Mirage M-5BA BA-60, assigned to No. 1 Squadron, and was withdrawn from active service in 1989. Between 1992 and 1994, the aircraft served as a test platform for the MirSIP program, after which it was placed in temporary storage until its sale to Chile was finalized, where it was inducted as M-5MA Elkan No. 714. Within the Chilean Air Force, it was assigned to No. 8 Aviation Group, primarily based at Cerro Moreno Air Base, Antofagasta. During its final period of service, Mirage 714 took part in combined exercises, notably its participation in Exercise CEIBO 2005, conducted at Plumerillo Air Base, Mendoza, Argentine Republic. In 2006, along with the remainder of the Mirage Elkan fleet, the aircraft was withdrawn from active service and preserved within facilities of the Chilean Air Force Supply Wing, remaining under institutional custody until its disposal in 2024.
