It is a compelling and optimistic assessment that offers thought-provoking alternatives to what may otherwise be accepted by some as inarguable truths. -- Jordana Landsman Reading the book, one gets the sense that there are some commercial forces that might be pushing scientists, the media and politicians toward solutions of containing the virus through expensive methods involving costly (and highly profitable) vaccines, sanitizers, cleaners, etc. Missing significantly, in the campaign to defeat Covid-19, are discussions to do with eating healthy and taking vitamin tablets that Dr Barke recommends. To me Dr Barke comes across in the book as someone who is proposing simpler and cheaper solutions towards containing Covid-19. As I reflect on Dr Barkes book, I still wonder if the Covid-19 pandemic has received a panic-stricken response from some politicians, scientists, and doctors. Might a few businesspeople in the health and sanitisation industry see Covid-19 as a public disaster, but also the biggest business boom in the 21st Century from which corrupt people can also profit? The revelations in Dr Barkes book made me wonder if scientists have been compensated by someone not to talk about the cheaper and successful options to treat the Covid-19. While, I am optimistic that a vaccine is on the way, I even wonder if we will ever get one that is affordable to all peoples worldwide, especially Africans. Jeffrey I. Barke has been a board-certified family physician in Newport Beach, California since 1993. As such he has dealt with hundreds of patients with various weight and eating problems, first as part of a large family practice and now as a Senior Partner of Newport Medical Consultants, a personal physician practice devoted to family medicine. Dr. Barke attended the University of Southern California and the University of California, Irvine Medical School. Dr. Barke is a member of the board of the Orange County Medical Association, an elected member of the Hoag Memorial Hospital Medical Executive Committee, and an Expert Medical Reviewer for the Medical Board of California, and a frequent speaker before medical groups. Godfrey Harris has been a public policy consultant based in Los Angeles, California since 1968. He began consulting after serving as a university lecturer, U.S. Army intelligence officer, U.S. foreign service officer with the Department of State, an organisational specialist in President Lyndon Johnson's Executive Office, and as a program manager for an international financial company in Geneva. He decided to look at dieting when the topic changed from a cosmetic issue to a public policy concern. This is the 50th book he has written on his own or with associates. He holds degrees from Stanford University and the University of California, Los Angeles.
