Overview

"Bringing up teenage boys to become Christian men has always been a formidable task. Fr. Reynold Kuehnel wrote and presented a series of talks for such young men one hundred years ago. The discussion is as spot on today as it was then. And the boys' objections will be as distinct today as they were at that time. Get together with your young men to read and discuss Fr. Kuehnel's arguments for Catholic behavior. Give them a distinctive understanding of the ""whys"" of a good life."

Author Information

Reynold, or Reinhold Kuehnel, was born July 1872 in Ludwigsdorf, Germany. He arrived in the US in 1882 with his parents, Ferdinand and Philomena (Weidlich) Kuehnel, and lived in St. Anthony's parish in Detroit. He was educated in Cincinnati and Baltimore and ordained for the Detroit Diocese 1896. Father Kuehnel served in Detroit, New Salem, and Pewamo Michigan; and in 1917 was assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dallas TX. He suffered from nephritis, and had to take time off from his duties to treat his illness. He was a fairly famous priest as priests go since he published four books of advice for Catholics as well as articles in various periodicals for clerics. These are still owned by libraries across the globe! At some point, he moved to Los Angeles where he died on October 25, 1928 at Queen of Angels Hospital and was buried from Sacred Heart Church in Calvary Cemetery,
