Overview

This book is primarily intended for individuals who are licensed to carry a concealed handgun or are taking a course to get certified for concealed carry; firearms instructors who are teaching certification courses for concealed carry or handgun safety; practicing criminal lawyers; and the general public. Its purpose is to educate and inform those who have a need or desire to understand the fundamental technical and legal concepts associated with concealed carry of a handgun and its justifiable use in self-defense. This book addresses various technical considerations relating to handguns and ammunition effectiveness intended for self-defense purposes, for example stopping power. The technical vernacular of handguns, shooting practice and types of bullets are included. This book concisely summarizes concealed-carry licensing laws and restrictions and legal concepts related to self-defense, such as stand your ground, the castle doctrine, use of deadly force, and the no-retreat rule. The book brings attention to the complex and differing concealed-carry and self-defense laws of various states and pertinent federal laws and what is required for compliance. Finally, this book is about the preservation of gun freedom and the individual right to self-defense as recognized by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions. A case is made for a national Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act that will enable universal concealed carry for self-defense in all 50 states.
