Overview

Thoroughly updated for its Second Edition, this comprehensive, profusely illustrated text/atlas covers the full range of pulmonary pathology, including common, rare and newly described diseases, both neoplastic and non-neoplastic. The book presents a multimodality approach to diagnosis, integrating cytologic, radiologic, surgical, and clinical pathologic features of each disease. By combining carefully chosen color illustrations with lists of distinguishing features of each entity, this text/atlas provides a quick path to accurate diagnosis. This edition features updated sections on pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary hemorrhage, lung transplantation, and pediatric pulmonary pathology, including new classification and grading systems. Throughout the book, new entities and new images have been added. An online image bank provides instant access to all the book's illustrations.

Doody's Book Review Service, 09-JUN-08, Anamarija Morovic, MD, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine -- Finding a simple, understandable and clear-cut lung pathology book seems to be very difficult today. This book is definitely what I was looking for-simple and to the point. The authors have created a helpful tool that can be used in everyday practice. This second edition is substantially improved over the first edition in every aspect. A short introduction to each disease is followed by key macroscopic and microscopic features. Useful special stains and immunohistochemical studies are listed. The text is complemented by representative macroscopic and microscopic images of excellent quality. When pertinent, cytologic images are included. The review of normal lung histology and cytology at the beginning of the book is very useful in further reading. The section on artifacts and age-related changes offers explanations of common things like crush or compression artifacts that can create false histologic impressions. The section on malignant neoplasms provides cytologic and microscopic images for almost every tumor. This cytologic-histologic correlation is extremely useful, especially for pathologists in training. For the in-service exams and pathology boards, this is a must have title. This atlas should be widely distributed to departmental and hospital libraries. Thumbs-up to Dr. Cagle and his team of editors and contributing authors. -Doody's Book Review Service (Weighted Numerical Score: 96; 4 Stars)
