Overview

Second grader Colleen Caroline and her pet octopus, Nerissa, are the best of pals. When Colleen Caroline's Mommie insists she make human friends, the seven year old feels it is a big waste of time, as none of the kids at school are as special and smart as she. A lesson will be learned that everyone is gifted in their own way. Even Nerissa finds new friends when she is introduced to Sid the Squid and Louise Ladybug. The world suddenly becomes a surprising place to share together.

Jeanmarie Collins is a native of Miami, Florida which influenced the surroundings in her book. She studied acting in London and has been teaching in the states and recently in Scotland for forty years. She is the mother of two, Jessica and Collin. Paul Downs is a self-taught artist and illustrator based in southeast Georgia. He enjoys experimenting, learning and challenging himself artistically him multiple styles, and mediums that include oil, acrylic and watercolor paints as well as graphite and mixing these mediums to create a particular effect. Growing up he was a huge fan of comics, graphic novels, animation and commercial art. Inspired by artists like Frank Frazetta, Jeff Jones, Bernie Wrightson, John Berkey, N.C. Wyeth and Howard Pyle he was drawn to more emotional and illustration driven work. This interest and inspiration from these artists gave him a sense of storytelling and design which he brings to each new work. Paul is a long standing member of Arts on the Coast in Bryan County Georgia and currently serves on its Board. He is also a member of Gallery 11 in City Market Savannah, Savannah Art Association and exhbits in shows and events throughout the Southeast. Paul enjoys sharing his process through various monthly watercolor classes as well. ""I approach each from a design aspect as well as a learning experience. I create a structure that best reflect the creativity, story or emotional context I'm hoping to convey or, in the case of a commission, what the client is looking to experience visually or emotionally."" ""Each painting is unique. Even those that are part of a series I approach with the idea of how to bring something new orfresh to each painting while keeping the inherent structure and elements of that series.""
