Dr. (Prof.) Samarendra Pratap Singh, born on April 20, 1947, is a distinguished academician, administrator, and medical professional whose career spans decades of excellence in medicine, higher education, and institutional leadership. He began his medical journey at Darbhanga Medical College, Darbhanga, where he earned his MBBS in 1969, followed by a Diploma in Anesthesia in 1974, an MD in Anesthesia in 1978, and later a Diploma in Acupuncture from Saurashtra in 1980, reflecting his commitment to advancing both mainstream and alternative medical practices. He served as an Anaesthetist, Associate Professor, and ultimately Professor & Head of the Department of Anaesthesia at Darbhanga Medical College & Hospital, contributing significantly to medical education and clinical services. Beyond teaching, he mentored five Ph.D. scholars and 27 M.D. students, leaving a lasting academic legacy. His leadership roles were equally prominent--he held the position of Vice-Chancellor at Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga (2010-2013) and Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna, where he guided institutional reforms and higher education development. He also served as Superintendent and Principal of Darbhanga Medical College Hospital and as Principal, Dean, and Chief Superintendent of Saraswati Institute of Medical Sciences, Ghaziabad. Nationally, he rose to become President of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists in 1995, having earlier served as its Vice-President, and chaired the Specialty Board of Anesthesiology, National Board of Examination, New Delhi. His contributions extended to policy and governance as a member of the Standing Committees of AIIMS Patna, the Medical Council of India, State Higher Education Council of Bihar, and several expert and selection committees across India. A prolific academic, he authored the book Higher Education in India: Issues & Concerns (2013) and published more than 16 research articles. His efforts were recognized through numerous honors, including the Amity Academic Excellence Award (2012), Bharat Academic Excellence Award, Lifetime Academic Achievement Award by World Management Congress (2011), Bharat Mata Award (2012), and the Best University Administrator of the Year Award (2012). Beyond academics, Dr. Singh actively engaged in community service through free medical camps, health awareness programs, and welfare initiatives, embodying a spirit of service to society. His academic tours to Singapore, Dubai, and Nepal further enriched his international perspective. Dr. S. P. Singh's journey is a testament to a lifetime dedicated to medicine, education, leadership, and social service, marking him as a towering figure in both healthcare and academia.
