Circle of Sorrow: Grieving After Losing a Child to Suicide

Overview

Losing a child from any cause is heartbreaking and life-changing, but losing a child to suicide carries unique aspects, among them guilt, shame, bewilderment, and stigma. Circle of Sorrow provides a glimpse into the heart-wrenching journey of grief thrust upon parents when a child takes his or her own life. Although directed especially toward parents, this book is also a valuable resource for other family members and friends, as well as pastors, counselors, and physicians, covering such topics as The Unforgivable Sin, stigma, the physical toll on the bodies of those going through intense grief, and whether our children can communicate with us from beyond. Written from a first-person perspective, in this book the author offers insights into how she navigated the many foreign aspects of grief and the myriad of practical matters that dropped onto her shoulders after the death of her son. Leaning consistently on her faith in Christ, she finds hope even in grief.

Reviews

""Keallie Wozny is heartbreakingly honest about the journey of losing her son to suicide and how she and her husband wrestled through every stage and aspect, seeking and finding deep comfort in God. Beautifully written, without sugarcoating the agony of grief, the account is painful, practical, poignant, gracious, and breathes solidly grounded biblical hope and solace. A critically needed resource and absolute must-read for those who have lost a loved one to suicide."" --Elizabeth W. D. Groves, author of Grief Undone: A Journey with God and Cancer ""Circle of Sorrow is a poignant memoir that gently unpacks the unique pain points of child loss and suicide. With a mix of personal experience and grace-filled encouragement, Keallie Wozny walks us through the journey of suicide loss no parent ever expects. Keallie's tender perspective, offered with relevant scripture and counsel, will help guide you through the struggles and questions of deep grief while pointing to the certainty and comfort of gospel hope."" --Lisa Appelo, author of Life Can Be Good Again: Putting Your World Back Together After It All Falls Apart ""Keallie Wozny takes us through her grief, allowing us to be attentive bystanders to one of the worst tragedies that can strike a family. Along with her, we slowly work our way through her suffering and enter a new world that the apostle Paul calls 'a fellowship of his suffering.' Here we discover a new intimacy with our Lord Jesus and his people. Keallie's well told story will draw you, the reader, into that same strange fellowship that she experienced. Let Keallie build your faith. That's more precious than gold that perishes."" --Paul E. Miller, author of A Praying Life
