OverviewChristian de la Croisette’s life was a complete mystery to him. His earliest memory was living in the country with a wealthy Tiptree family and he always believed that he was the illegitimate son of one of the daughters but this was proved incorrect. He was later sent to a private school near Dulverton where he discovered that he was most likely of Huguenot blood. Christian went on to become an Art historian and was regularly called as an expert witness to help the return of the plundered art by the Nazis to their rightful owners. Although Christian’s professional life was well ordered, his personal life was in constant turmoil. Plagued by the thought of who he was he began a quest to find the identity of his birth mother, which led him down many intriguing paths. Unsure of what was truth and fiction, James E Probetts unfolds the facts behind the rumours, but if proven, the story has potential to be one of the greatest scandals of the twentieth century.
