Author Information

Guo Daiheng, graduated from Tsinghua University in 1960 and studied under Liang Sicheng. Currently, she is a professor and doctoral tutor at Tsinghua University, and a national first-class registered architect. She ever worked as head of the teaching and research section, school of architecture. In 1987, she won the first prize of the National Natural Science Award and the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award. She has written more than 50 academic papers and a number of academic books, including A History of Chinese Ancient Architecture (The Third Volume): Song, Liao, Jin and Xixia Architecture, Hua Tang Yi Cai: Interior Decoration Art of Chinese Classical Architecture, Baoguo Temple, The Famous Works of Eastern Architecture in the 20th Century and Chinese Ancient Architecture in both Chinese and English. Her New Leifeng Tower project in Hangzhou has granted the Silver Award of Excellent Architectural Design by the Ministry of Construction and the First Prize of Excellent Architectural Design by the Ministry of Education. Gao Yilan was born in 1932 and a professor and doctoral tutor of the School of Architecture before 1999 when she retired. She used to be the head of the Department of Architecture at the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, and ever served as the Director of Architectural Education Evaluation Committee of National Higher Education Institutions for two consecutive years. She has participated in or hosted a number of important design projects, such as Museum of Chinese Revolution, Main Building at Tsinghua University, Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, Beijing Yanxiang Hotel (awarded the Second Prize of Excellent Design by the Education Commission in 1989), library, gymnasium, teaching building and laboratory building of Shenyang Institute of Aeronautical Engineering and much more. In 1993, her teaching achievement won the First Prize of National Excellent Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award. She has presided over a number of research projects, translated one book, complied two books and published dozens of papers in domestic and foreign journals. Xia Lu was born on May 3, 1960 in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, China. From 1978 to 1983, she studied at the Department of Architecture, Tsinghua University. From 1983 to 1985, she worked in Gansu Planning and Design Institute, with main works of Government Building of Baiyin City, Planning and Design for Maiji Mountain Grottoes Scenic Area. From 1985 to 1989, she worked in Beijing New Building Materials Architecture Design Institute, with main works of No.1 Building, Zhengyang Shopping Mall, the so-called eyebrow project located in the southern side of Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven Supermarket, Hotel Group at Nandaihe Scenic Area. From 1990 to 1994, she obtained her master degree at the School of Architecture and Engineering, University of Liverpool, with research topic being Chinese ancient architecture. Now she settles in Liverpool, England, and is a member of the Liverpool UK-China Cultural Promotion Association. Her works include Museum of Chinese Culture: Chinatown, Liverpool, Welsh Historic Monuments and so on.
