Overview

If you're starting a new children's ministry, strengthening an existing one, or wanting to be more intentional with the spiritual nurture you give your child or grandchild, Children on the Trail can help. Even though it provides a clear progression for the spiritual formation of children, it offers more paint-by-principle guidance than an oversimplified step-by-step approach.

Reviews

Children on the Trail presents a valuable resource for our churches. Drawing from decades of experience and wisdom, Sandy's writing is a valuable resource that emphasizes the importance of meaningful relationships and good teaching. The most important responsibility for our generation is the spiritual well-being of the generation that comes after us, and Children on the Trail will help our churches discern next steps to care for our children. Children on the Trail reminds us that faith is a lifelong journey that begins in childhood, and churches and families share the responsibility for the path our children choose. Sandy helps us understand the needs of children at different stages on their lives, and how we can support the growth of faith in their lives. The Trail is not simply a guide for children's ministry but an inspiration to help us prepare for forming faith in our youngest generations. It helps a church imagine how it can best come alongside their children and point them towards Jesus. I highly encourage you to read this book with your ministry team and commend it as a valuable tool. -Dan Pyke Director of Youth and Family Ministries, Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada Drawing on her years of ministry experience in Atlantic Canada, Rev. Sandy Sutherland has compiled this practical tool for both paid and volunteer ministry leaders within the church. This book lays a foundation to equip those who minister with children. I have had the opportunity to draw on and share Sandy's wisdom and vision for the Trail in preparing leaders for Next Generation Ministries, and I believe it is a good example of seeking to lead with clarity, purpose, and direction. It is a valuable resource, and I am thankful for Sandy for taking the time to put this together so many more can benefit from her knowledge and insight regarding this important ministry within the church. -Jody Linkletter Lecturer, Next Generation Ministries Associate Director of Doctoral Studies, Academic Assistant to the Associate Dean, Acadia Divinity College Children on the Trail is a comprehensive resource for churches to develop an intentional approach to children's ministry. I am excited to have this excellent resource to recommend to churches responding to Jesus's command to let the little children come to Him. The book encompasses the important principles of a lifelong discipleship journey. Forged from years of study, experience, and expertise, Sandy Sutherland offers churches today a proven approach that is adaptable, customizable, and achievable. -Rev. Tanya Yuen Children and Family Ministries Associate, Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec
