OverviewA chalazion is a little swelling or lump that appears on the upper or lower eyelid and is painless. One of the microscopic oil glands (meibomian glands) inside the eyelid is clogged, which is the reason behind it. Meibum, an oil secreted by meibomian glands, lubricates the surface of the eye and keeps tears from drying up too rapidly. The oil produced by a blocked meibomian gland cannot exit the gland normally. Chalazion formation is the result of this obstruction. It may start out as a sore, red bump on the eyelid, but it usually gets better with time and becomes a hard, painless lump. Key information on chalazions is as follows: Symptoms: Tenderness, redness, and swelling on the eyelid are possible signs of chalazion. A little, painless lump appears as it progresses. If it presses against the eye sufficiently to induce blurriness, then yes. Causes: A blockage in one of the meibomian glands is usually the cause of chalazia. Thickened oil or gland irritation could be the cause of the blockage. Hazardous Elements People who have previously experienced blepharitis, or inflammation of the eyelids, are more likely to develop chalazia. Chalazia may arise as a result of malfunctioning meibomian glands Full Product DetailsAuthor: B DanielsPublisher: Independently Published Imprint: Independently Published Dimensions: Width: 15.20cm , Height: 0.50cm , Length: 22.90cm Weight: 0.127kg ISBN: 9798876849014Pages: 88 Publication Date: 28 January 2024 Audience: General/trade , General Format: Paperback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: In Print This item will be ordered in for you from one of our suppliers.
