Overview

"Bob Marley was the undisputed sovereign of reggae music and the revolutionary soul-prophet whose music had - and continues to have - a massive impact on people of all races throughout the world. ""Catch A Fire"" chronicles his life and career as well as the milieu that shaped Marley's political and spiritual beliefs. This full revised and expanded new edition features fascinating inside information on the intrigues of the reggae music business and the ongoing saga of Marley's musical and spiritual legacy. Included here are sections on the dramatic rise of Bob's musical offspring, the complex legal struggles surrounding his estate, and a sweeping social history of modern Jamaica and the origins of the Rastafarian religion."

Probably the finest biography ever written about a popular musician. -Joel Selvin, San Francisco Chronicle

Author Information

Timothy White wrote extensively on Marley, reggae and Caribbean music and culture for Rolling Stone, the New York Times, and other leading publications. His close contact with Marley, his family and inner circle of friends led to his being granted access to private papers, photographs and memorabilia. At the time of his death in 2002, Timothy was the editor of Billboard magazine. Among his other biographical works are The Nearest Faraway Place: Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, and the Southern Californian Experience and Long Ago & Far Away: James Taylor, His Life and Music. Marley expert Harry Hawke has contributed to this latest edition of Catch A Fire, now widely acclaimed as the definitive biography of Bob Marley.
