Table of ContentsReviews"Book Review Written by: Hillary Kibet, Online Book Club One of the biggest contributions anyone could make to the world is passing on what they have learned and received to future generations. From a young age, Gary Keating always had a small basketball in his crib. Years later, he would accompany his father to his coaching sessions, and afterward play for his team. Father and son would then coach together, earning the nickname K2. Gary learned a great deal from his father, John Keating, and has applied the lessons in his life. He seeks to encourage others to do the same. This book is the story of a survivor who refused to let Parkinson's disease control his life or define who he is or what he can do. He is applying lessons learned on a basketball court, both as a player and a coach, to his battle against this neurodegenerative condition. It is the story of a victor overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles and encouraging the reader to do the same. Some friends walked away, but Gary knows he has never been alone, those who left made room for those genuinely interested in playing a supportive role and being in his life. As in each of our lives, he shows that we can know our true friends when the day is gloomy, the sunshine barely penetrating the cloudy sky. He also demonstrates that giving up should never be an option in life. Regardless of the circumstances, we can always stand strong and declare, ""Game On!"" One of the most important lessons I learned, one that I will never forget, is the importance of appreciating those around us. We need to develop the subtle art of recognizing the heroes who surround us, ordinary individuals who do extraordinary things - starting from our own homes; this is an art that all could embrace, making a huge difference in how we live. Gary writes a moving tribute to his father and thanks both his parents immensely for the role they played in his life. Undoubtedly, they have been the leading heroes in his life. We all face different obstacles and adversities in life, and this book could provide the fuel we need to move on when we are forced to either resign in defeat or press on. It will appeal to those who are battling conditions like Parkinson's disease. If you are a parent or a guardian, Gary's story could inspire your child, who may have been bullied or discriminated against for who they are."
