Overview

Two young women, from different small countries, courted opposite ideological sympathies. Their family background in each case encouraged a particular stance. Severely though their ideas were held, they were nothing compared with the personal regard they had for each other. The large issues of the day ultimately compelled them to adopt the citizenship of a neighbouring country. The warfare in which they were involved led to their separate recruitment in contrasting naval and air force services that threatened an end to their relationship. Perhaps the time had come for them to go their independent ways. Over four years of distinguished service followed for both. During this time both women achieved exceptional notice in being among the first women to take the places of men. But adversities took their ultimate toll.
