Overview

"Carolyn and Christopher were living a normal existence when a positive biopsy for breast cancer changed their lives. This is a series of insights into what it is like to deal with cancer and the many facets of it's treatment. This is from the perspective of a couple that were unaware of what would be involved in dealing with cancer but gained considerable knowledge of the treatment and lifestyle changes that occur. This book is called Cancer Insights since it illuminates many of the scary unknowns that women who are diagnosed with beast cancer will need to deal with. It is also for the family, friends and especially for the spouse of the cancer patient to glean some insights into what she is going through and how to deal with it. The book is a graphic novel in a sense. In a sense because each page is focused on a particular issue, anditode or description of the common day to day things that a cancer patient and her spouse will deal with. The story is mostly told with images, drawn from real-life experiences of actual events as they occured. We receiced feedback on many of the pages from other cancer patients as the pages were created. That helped us to know that we were on track with many of the issues that the book deals with. You may read things that make you feel less alone, perhaps thinking ""Hey, that happened to me too!"". We grew a lot individually and together as a couple during our cancer journey and it helped bring us even closer together. This book is also a continuation of Carolyn's legacy since 50% of the profits of the book go directly to metastatic breast cancer research."

I love your illustrations and insights, and it is such a blessing that you put them out there to share with others. You and Carrie walked an incredible path, full of love and joy and hope and fear and grief, and for you to share bits and pieces of that is so encouraging. What I get most out of the subjects you have shared about is to make the best of a terrible and difficult situation. Carrie had a great attitude about everything from chemo to dressing up - I think she was able to get through the hard times with hope and even joy (and her spunky attitude: )), because she knew that God was in control, and that the best was yet to come. And because you were by her side - what an example of love and commitment you were and are. Kirk and I can't begin to know what you're going through now, but we pray for God's comfort and His hope for you. Keep the illustrations and insights coming - I love reading them. Sheryl Rothe

Author Information

Christopher live in the foothills in Colorado with his trusty dog and three cats, all of whom were hand-picked by Carolyn. He is a Software Developer with a love of reading and writing. He keeps busy hiking, kayaking and snowboarding near home and riding motorcycles all over. Most of his kids still live in Colorado, so he gets to see them often.
