Overview

Some 10,000,000 women have survived breast cancer world-wide. Yet many of them still do not feel well. Problems with pain, fatigue, memory, confusion, anxiety, depression and more continue to plague a high percentage of survivors long after treatment has ended. This book, written by a long-term double cancer survivor, provides authoritative information on the possible causes of these lasting effects of cancer treatment and offers a variety of suggestions on how to manage chemotherapy side effects. While the book is based in solid scientific information, the author uses a variety of lenses through which to see this problem, including myth, fairy tales, personal anecdotes and humor. Cancer: How to Make Survival Worth Living is an engaging, delightful book, as well as an educational tool for physicians and patients alike.

Author Information

Patricia R Wheeler is a survivor of breast and ovarian cancer, undergoing chemotherapy for both. When health issues continued after her release from treatment, Ms. Wheeler became convinced they were related to her cancer treatment, and she began to find proof to support her theory. This book is the result of her work and her findings. With her Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Consciousness Studies, which she brings to bear on her writing, Ms. Wheeler has taught Philosophy and Religious Studies to undergraduate college students for the past 20 years. This is Ms. Wheeler's first book, but it very likely will not be her last as she continues her work on the condition that plagues so many cancer survivors now that it has been officially recognized by the medical community.
