OverviewBulldog Drummond: Ex-British Army Captain Hugh Bulldog Drummond is a World War One veteran, brutalised by his military experiences but bored with his post-war lifestyle. He publishes an advertisement in The Times stating his desire for adventure, and soon finds himself entangled in danger. Many of his clashes involve Carl Peterson and Peterson's mistress, a femme fatale named Irma. The book was adapted into a stage play and Hollywood film. The author shared a similar background. British solider Herman Cyril McNeile (1888-1937) wrote his war stories under the name H. C. McNeile. His nickname Sapper was based on his work in the Royal Engineers.
