Overview

Fly into the engrossing world of bugs with the buzziest book in the What on Earth Explorer series, complete with a nearly 2-metre-long fold-out timeline. Join explorer Agent Eagle on his next mission, as he shares the history and science of our insect friends. From ants and bees, to spiders and wasps, learn what a bug is – scientifically – through an understanding of classifications, body shape identification, communication and more. Uncover the history of bugs, including how they evolved and how they are born and grow, and unearth how they support our environment. A list of great bug explorers, a quiz, name game, and glossary lead you to the grand finale – a fold-out timeline featuring 100 of the creepiest, crawliest, coolest creatures that ever lived – from their first appearance 520 million years ago until today. Explorer: BUGS by Nick Forshaw and William Exley received the Silver Honor from the 2018 Parents Choice Awards and is a (Youth) Non-Fiction Finalist, 2018 International Book Awards.

Author Information

Nick Forshaw is an author and editor based in Berlin. He has written a history of the evolution of the dinosaurs, explored the way insects, arachnids and other creepy crawlies first developed, taken a close look at the way plants thrive on our green planet and investigated all the different species of mammal that have evolved on planet Earth. Bestselling author Christopher Lloyd began his career as a journalist with the Sunday Times newspaper. Then, while camping with his family, he had a critical realisation: even with a 1st class degree in history from Cambridge University and experience as a science writer, there was so much about the world he didn’t know. So, he set out to write books that zoom out and tell the big stories, opening readers’ eyes to how seemingly unrelated events fit together and showing them multiple perspectives on the world, all in highly engaging prose and matched with lively illustration and photography. Now, with several books in print, including the bestselling What on Earth Happened? and Absolutely Everything, Chris divides his time between writing books and delivering lectures and workshops to schools, literary festivals, and a wide range of other venues around the world. He lives in Tonbridge, Kent, UK, with his wife and two adorable terriers. William Exley divides his time between writing and illustrating graphic novels – including Golemchik (Nobrow Press) – and illustrating children’s non-fiction.
