OverviewPhotographs portraying the nostalgic, gritty years of the 1970s and early 1980s on Britain's railways. Andy Sparks spent his youth photographing the scene on the railways of Britain in the 1970s and early 1980s. Travelling with his camera whenever and wherever he could from 1972 onwards, he amassed a portfolio of over 1,000 images. This was an era of change, and of decay and dereliction gradually giving way to the onset of new order and organisation. Andy Sparks' evocative and nostalgic photographs document the people, infrastructure, activities, trains and locomotives of this time, presenting a photo album that recreates the atmosphere of this gritty and distinct period in time.
