This book marks a key milestone in the history of Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). The book's narrative takes the reader through the history of the medical school through anecdotal editorial from the people who helped shape it. The book is set to raise awareness of BSMS by detailing a decade of success in the schools' teaching, training and research history by featuring the key milestones in the school's development. It will explain how it was created, the opening and securing of research fellows, the first graduates and the achievements currently being nurtured to ensure its successful future. The book will also highlight the school's ethos of creating an environment which will nurture a long lasting legacy. Authors include: Professor Gordon Ferns, Acting Dean of the Medical School; BSMS professorial staff including Professor Helen Smith, Professor Kevin Davies, Professor Bobbie Farsides, Professor Ken Miles and Professor Diana Lawrence-Watt. About Brighton and Sussex Medical School is an equal partnership between the Universities of Sussex and Brighton together with NHS organisations throughout the South East region. It admits around 125 students a year to its BM BS degree course and continually achieves one of the highest application rates of any UK medical school. The BSMS 5 year strategic plan (2009 - 14) places growth in research capacity as its number one priority. The Medical School is organised across four major divisions: Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, Primary Care and Public Health Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Medical Education. BSMS offers an Academic Training Programme aimed at doctors who are considering an academic career in medicine.
