Brave Water: It's never too late to learn to swim-or to begin again

Overview

What if your greatest fear held the key to your freedom? Marisol never imagined that water-something so essential, so ordinary-could undo her. But a panic attack at the edge of a pool reveals a fear she didn't know she carried, buried deep and passed down like an heirloom. She's not just afraid of water-she's scared of what it asks her to let go...assimilate and lose her Cuban culture and family story as part of the Cuban Diaspora. Brave Water follows Marisol's remarkable journey across continents and inner landscapes as she learns to float, breathe, and trust again. From her first trembling swim lesson to the coral reefs of Indonesia, and eventually to teaching others, she discovers that learning to swim is more than a physical act-it's a reclamation of self, a healing of generations. Inspired by a true story, Brave Water is a lyrical, uplifting novella about fear, resilience, and the quiet power of choosing calm-even in the deep and far away from that place she calls home, without losing herself.
