R. L. Harless lives in the southern part of Missouri. He was born in Wellsburg, West Virginia and is the son of Willard and Zona Mildred Harless. He decided to take the pen name J. Lee McPherson using the middle name of his grandfather 'Jubal McPherson Harless' and his own middle name which is Lee. His hobby was mostly singing and playing his guitar at local jam sessions as well as writing songs until he discovered another talent. He always liked putting words to music and his family saw something in the way he wrote so encouraged him to try his luck at writing books. Now when he's not jamming with his friends he's busy writing fiction novels. In a short span of time he came up with 'The Shadow Dog of Jeremiah', a Christmas story called 'Bobba Long the Bowlegged Snowman', 'Stars of Ivondale', 'The Storm Shelter', 'The Legend of Zinnia', 'Dream Tracker (The Beginning)', 'Sebastian, Out of Time', and another Christmas story called 'The Magic Snowball'. He also has published a book with song lyrics that he wrote called 'A Country Boy's Lyrics', using his own name. Now J. Lee McPherson figures he has finally found his niche in life and plans on writing as long as he can take the pictures from his mind and with a little imagination put them to words.
