OverviewThe Language of the Birds is a series of monoprints, created by Genie Poretzky-Lee in 2018. The 30 monoprints were inspired by the secret language of the French medieval troubadours, and the poem, ""The Conference of the Birds"" (1177) by Sufi poet Farid ud-Din Attar (c.1145 - c.1221). All untitled, they are printed on Bockinford water colour paper, with blue pigment extracted from the woad plant (isatis tinctoria), a natural indigo dye used for thousands of years in Europe and the Middle East. Each mono print is 28cm x 38cm. Dr Anna Walker compiled, edited and designed BLUE, and wrote the introduction.
