Author Information

Dwayne Lawson-Brown (They/Them) is a father, poet, playwright, and crochet kingpin. A proud DC Native, Dwayne has served their hometown community for their entire adult life through HIV prevention education, museum education and advocacy, and informing artists of funding opportunities through the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Artistically, Dwayne is the former co-host of Spit Dat, the longest running open mic in Washington, D.C., has performed and hosted at The Kennedy Center, Woolly Mammoth Theater, Keegan Theater, The Strathmore, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and others. Dwayne has penned three poetry collections; One Color Kaleidoscope (2019), Twenty:21 (2021), and Breaking the Blank (co-authored with Rebecca Bishophall, 2022). Dwayne and Drew Anderson have co-authored three plays; From Gumbo to Mumbo (2018), Push the Button (2022), and the forthcoming, Midiculous (2026).
