Overview

Big Sober Energy is a book about how to harness and direct energy to create an extraordinary life that's worth staying sober for. Part memoir, part spiritual development guide, this book offers eleven concrete practices designed to help you rewrite harmful narratives, rebuild self-trust, hone your intuition, and invest in communities that support personal and collective liberation. If traditional recovery narratives don't resonate with you, you need this book in your life. Big Sober Energy will help you... Learn how energy work can make your recovery more joyful, sustainable, and magical. Understand how your brain works without needing a Ph.D. in neuroscience. Use proven mindfulness techniques to cope with stress, anxiety, and cravings. Nurture a loving and compassionate relationship with yourself, even if you've never had one. Master your ability to navigate other people and the world without alcohol. Big Sober Energy is a must-read for anyone who sees recovery as a beautiful journey, not a restrictive punishment. Whether you are new to energy mastery or a seasoned spiritual practitioner, this book is a powerful primer for readers who want to tune their lives to sobriety. After ending what she mistakenly thought was a love story with alcohol, author Adrienne van der Valk struggled to see her experience reflected in traditional alcoholism recovery resources or sobriety books for women. After years of research, self-study, and connecting with other like-minded sober people, she decided to compile the practices that took her from weekly blackouts to thriving in recovery. From reuniting body and soul to wrangling money monsters to solving the time-suck of social media, each chapter offers specific, try-today suggestions that can enhance your recovery and your life!

Reviews

"""Big Sober Energy is a smart, inviting, and unique Quit Lit entry that reads like a cool reference book. Adrienne provides richly detailed meditation practices that go beyond the basics, introspective prompts that guide readers with care and intention, and raw personal stories. It's a book you can turn to in any stage of sobriety when you want to go inward."" - Jocellyn Synder, Author of Recovering the Home ""Adrienne is a powerful, generous storyteller and teacher, and she knows what she's talking about. This book not only off ers directly and immediately adoptable practices to radically improve the quality of your life, it also stands as evidence of the effi cacy of these practices and Adrienne's mastery of them. I think everyone should read this book whether they have a history with addiction or not; it makes energy work easy and improving your life fun."" - Dr. Kate Tomas, Founder of the Spiritual Life Upgrade ""Adrienne has done a great job of creating a work that embraces a non-traditional, self-liberatory approach to what it means to live a sober lifestyle. I admire her openness and transparency in sharing the most vulnerable parts of her life experience in an eff ort to help others who may be dealing with similar circumstances. This book is for those who may be on a path towards or interested in learning about sober living from a more holistic, spiritual, non-fundamentalist standpoint. As a sociologist, I respect the fact that Adrienne went to great lengths to remain culturally sensitive while paying homage to spiritual principles that were integral to her journey toward greater healing and transformation. This is a must-read!"" - Keon, Creator of Millennial Soul Food, LLC"
