"I have just read the book Battles. The stories and the events transcribed there are not only interesting but so riveting that I couldn't put it down. Amazing stories of real people and the battles that they themselves lived through. Some happy, some sad, some thought provoking and all real. Hard knocks, war stories, natural calamities, and everyday events and circumstances and what it was like to have lived through it. Just...WOW! -------------- Oh, Barb!! I was planning on reading the book while on vacation but when I saw that you wrote the first chapter, I had to dive in. Incredible! Determination, intelligence and a deep sense of family are just a few of the attributes of this remarkable man, your son, Patrick! I remember so well when he was graduating and beginning his career, but your description of the challenges he faced and the fortitude he has shown...all I can say is WOW! You did such an excellent job bringing Patrick's story to life. I am truly blown away and look forward to reading the other stories. Thank you so much for sharing!! ------------- ""Battles: Glimpses of Truth"" is an anthology that delves into the shadows of human experience, offering a collection of stories that are as engaging as they are captivating. Each story in this anthology is a gem, crafted with precision and skill, drawing readers into worlds both familiar and imaginative. What sets this collection apart is its diversity of voices and themes. Each story offers a unique perspective on the human condition. Whether exploring the depths of grief or the heights of joy, these narratives resonate on a profound level reminding us of the power of storytelling to illuminate the darkest corners of our emotions. In short, ""Battles: Glimpses of Truth"" is a must-read for anyone who loves immersive storytelling and characters who you will never forget. It's a collection that will linger in the mind long after the final page has been turned, leaving readers hungry for more. Highly recommended! ------------- Many of the stories in Battles are heartwarming, and some are heart wrenching. As a mother who has lost a child to suicide, I literally bawled reading this one: ""To My Son, Archie Ray Bush. Jr., 1972-2009."" And the story about the missing teens--a parent's worst nightmare. The pieces about war heroes need standing ovations for the honor they bestow. The biggest take-away from the collection of articles is that we are not alone in our struggles, and God's Grace is the greatest sustainer in our grief."

Author Information

"Barbara Grillot Gaddy is a native of Crystal Springs, Mississippi. She holds a Master of Education degree from Mississippi College, Clinton, Mississippi, and held teaching certifications in both business and computer education. She started the kindergarten program at First Baptist Church, Crystal Springs, where she directed the program and taught 2-year-old preschoolers. She wrote curriculum for the Southern Baptist Convention, with a focus on guidance for teachers of five-year-old children. Barbara taught business and computer classes at high school and community college levels. She was recruited to begin the computer education program at Ingalls Shipbuilding, Pascagoula, Mississippi, and taught computer applications classes, network administration classes, and mainframe operations classes for Ingalls employees from the president of the company to the shop floor workers. During this time Barbara authored two instruction manuals for Microsoft Access Database Management, developing case studies and teaching instructions for college level instructors. She continued her career at Ingalls for twenty years, serving in positions of Information Technology Program Manager and Manager of Information Technology Communications. She currently is a substitute teacher for a local school and volunteers her time reviewing and ranking applications for the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association (VHPA) / Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) scholarships. Barbara and her husband Bruce, a Vietnam veteran, enjoy life on their 172-acre farm in Crystal Springs, where they fish, tend a fruit tree garden, ride four wheelers, and just enjoy life together. Barbara has three children and four grandchildren. Dorothy Ainsworth Day believes if a bumblebee can fly when it is aerodynamically incapable of flight she can write when it is physically impossible to do nothing on her own. But even when she thinks she is doing the work, she has a tribe supporting her efforts. She has degrees from Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Wesson, Mississippi, and Mississippi College, Clinton, Mississippi; formerly she was a licensed teacher of high school English and French and a licensed marriage and family therapist. She and her caregiver/husband Charles laugh at the cute antics of Dempsey, a miniature Aussie (1/8) Schnoodle (3/8 poodle, 1/2 Schnauzer), attend church, and roll through life together. They discuss their legacy writing, and plan together how to tell Lady's story. Lady was their Bitsa rescue from a shelter (bits of wolf, shepherd, collie, and more). Although Dot wrote poetry or rhyming verses in the first grade, there is no proof it existed. She worked to get her students to enjoy the process of writing and later her four grandchildren to relish the processes of drawing and painting (""Benches, swings, table prepare you for owning a home or get you ready for a career!""). Dot had a variety of jobs, but her life was working for her family as wife, mother, mother-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, and as grandmother. Although she might have embarrassed family members sometimes, her over-arching goal was and is to love and honor Jesus. Dot was sidelined from her careers and chaired from the independence of driving by IBM. Yes, IBM - Inclusion Body Myositis, a late-onset muscular dystrophy of unknown origin and no treatment. She looked to writing to live out her purposes. She accumulated the stories of others for her first published book, Memories of a Sharecropper's Family. Her second effort, aided by the formidable Barbara Gaddy, resulted in the retelling of ordinary events touched with the handprints of God - Ordinary Miracles. It was an anthology, as is Battles: Glimpses of Truth."
