Author Information

Larry Carlson was the President and CEO of United Methodist Communities (UMC) for eleven years before his retirement. Before landing at UMC, Larry worked for two very caring not-for-profit, faith-based organizations - The United Church of Christ and then the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago. Additionally, he was the Director of Housing at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for the Aged in Boston. He has served in senior operating and management roles in the eldercare industry since 1975. With his nursing home license credentials, Larry has diverse and extensive experience in multiple aspects of eldercare administration. He has expertise in CCRC, long-term skilled nursing, post-acute rehabilitation, congregate housing, adult day health and assisted living. He is skilled in operations, strategic planning, board development, new project design and development, construction, and start-ups. As a newlywed at twenty-three, Larry and his wife Melanie lived five years at a not-for-profit, communitybased thirty-nine bed facility in Boston as he began his career. Today, Melanie and Larry, married fortyeight years, are crazy for their three daughters and four grandchildren.
