Auchenblae: The Vanishings

Overview

The Vanishings is a police procedural/multiverse fantasy. which is running beside a missing persons mystery. There are heavy tones of multi-dimensions, time travel and changelings amidst the real world drudgery of classical police investigations. Auchenblae: a village in the Mearns of Kincardineshire in North East Scotland. Its January 1986 and two CID detectives from Glasgow are seconded to Grampian Police. They come with radically different views on modern policing and with a covert agenda and objective. They are not warmly received. Against this backdrop of conflict and growing enmity, local villagers mysteriously start to disappear in and around Drumtochty Forest. Investigators soon determine that these vanishings are not a new phenomenon, people have disappeared in the woods before only to return days or weeks later without ill-effect but in a state of total amnesia. All that is, but one. One man Devis Gilmour in 1976 disappeared and returned after 7 years to the day. But he had changed. He wasn't the same. But he does remember, everything. In his testimony he recalls all to vividly where he was and what he experienced, which he backs with credible academic argument and scientific facts - So why did no one want to know? A decade later, March 1986 a local boy vanishes from his home at the edge of the forest the police are this time forced to listen. Gilmour's testimony is revisited. It's not what anyone wants to hear - a dreadful foreboding, a dire warning of apocalyptic events heralded by the return of the comet. It's a dark testimony telling of other worlds, of portals to other dimensions in space and time. It is rich only in it unbelievability, with fantastical foretelling's of impending chaos and catastrophe. Only Gilmour, can save the boy and mankind. But can what he claims actually be real, or just deluded ramblings. Can the fool even he trusted? With the police force in turmoil who if anyone will listen? They didn't before, will they listen now?
