Overview

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is now firmly established as an invaluable technique for diagnosing and monitoring disease. The second edition of this comprehensive clinical atlas will continue to present the combined experience of two of the world's leading PET centres as the technique has moved on from its formative years to gain established value in clinical practice. The book has been substantially rewritten to take account of the exciting developments that are occurring with the introduction of PET/CT, and new 'state-of-the-art' PET/CT images are presented. The new edition continues to be presented as a series of 'mini-lectures' carefully designed for rapid assimilation, illustrated by case histories in which high-quality illustrations are supplemented by clear concise teaching points and directions for further reading. Part One provides an excellent introduction to the science and practice of PET and displays normal variants and discusses potential pitfalls. In Part Two, the applications of PET/CT in oncology are covered in detail, according to body system in order of their clinical importance. Part Three examines the applications of PET/CT beyond oncology; in neuropsychiatry, cardiology and infection. A useful additional feature is the accompanying DVD-Rom with HERMES RAPID software, which contains PET/CT cases for viewing and analysis, with cross-modality image fusion, and has been provided by Hermes Medical Solutions. Atlas of Clinical Positron Emission Tomography is an invaluable resource for nuclear medicine specialists, radiologists and oncologists, both in training and in practice.

Reviews

The second edition of the Atlas of Clinical Positron Emission Tomography written by experienced leaders in two continents is a complete update of the principles and practice of clinical PET and PET/CT, the most exciting advances in medical imaging in the past 30 years. Anyone involved or interested in the current state of PET and PET/CT must read this book to be brought up to date in this rapidly evolving field. -- Professor Henry N. Wagner 20050914 This Atlas provides a thoughtful and well-illustrated educational approach for defining the principles and good practices of PET and PET/CT. It provides a comprehensive educational tool for radiologists and nuclear medicine specialists who want to learn about molecular imaging -- Dr. Antonio Maldonado 20050914 At this time when PET/CT applications became an essential part for the diagnosis, treatment evaluation and follow up of a wide range of oncological, cardiac, neurological and infection diseases, the need for a comprehensive educational resources for both the nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists and specially for the referring physicians is an essential part for better patient care. The experience of three distinguished nuclear medicine world leaders is presented in the second edition of this Atlas of Clinical Positron Emission Tomography. The knowledge presented is essential for all practicing or utilizing PET/CT for patient care. -- Dr. Hussein M. Abdel-Dayem 20050914 For its target audience, those training in nuclear medicine and oncology, it would prove its worth and there are few competitors currently available... The DVD performs an important task in teaching about PET as the images are presented on a computer screen and can be manipulated, for example, to select any section or view any region of interest just as they might be in practice. -- RAD Magazine, reviewed by Professor MJ Myers, Hammersmith Hospital, London 20060701
