Given the current environmental situation and the consequences that the new environmental policy may have for society in the future, sustainable development is essential, with the search for new technologies and solutions to remedy this situation. This book deals with biogas, assessing the current situation of energy production. The aim is to analyze energy production from biogas by reviewing the literature to assess its environmental viability. In view of increasing urbanization and the resulting population growth, which generates more waste, biogas can help to reduce waste, produce environmentally friendly energy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We conclude that although this technology requires a high investment and has a return on investment of approximately 20 years, it offers many social, economic, and environmental benefits that offset the investment. This technology, together with more developed renewable energies, such as wind and solar, may replace fossil fuels in the future.
