Overview

"James Allens classic AS A MAN THINKETH. The Bestselling Classic That Inspired ""The Secret"". AS A MAN THINKETH, Allen's most famous book, today is considered a classic self-help book. Its underlying premise is that noble thoughts make a noble person, while lowly thoughts make a miserable person. In ""As a Man Thinketh,"" James Allen reveals how our thoughts determine reality. Whether or not we are conscious of it, our underlying beliefs shape our character, our health and appearance, our circumstances, and our destinies. Allen shows how we can master our thoughts to create the life we want, lest we drift through life unconscious of the inner forces that keep us mired in failure and frustration. ""The Vision that you glorify in your mind, the Ideal that you enthrone in your heart-this you will build your life by, this you will become."" This principle, which others have called THE SECRET or the LAW OF ATTRACTION, was clearly and convincingly stated for the first time in ""As a Man Thinketh."" As a being of Power, Intelligence, and Love, and the lord of his own thoughts, man holds the key to every situation, and contains within himself that transforming and regenerative agency by which he may make himself what he wills."

Author Information

"James Allen (1864-1912) was a British writer and pioneer of the self-help movement. Born to a working-class family in Leicester, England, Allen left school at age fifteen, after which he worked as a private secretary and later as a magazine writer. In 1902, he began to publish his own spiritual magazine, The Light of Reason. Over the course of his life, Allen wrote nineteen books, some of which include As a Man Thinketh, Eight Pillars of Prosperity, Above Life's Turmoil, From Passion to Peace, and From Poverty to Power. P. J. Ochlan is an actor and voiceover artist who has narrated hundreds of audiobooks and is the recipient of an Audie Award and several AudioFile Earphones Awards. Ray Porter is a prolific voice actor that has recorded for over 100 audio books and dozens of television series, video games and video shorts. Among his wide variety of audiobook credits are The Silver Linings Playbook, The Black Hole War, and the Joe Ledger series. He claims, ""With every book I've done, I have found that the author has a voice and if I can just do my best to stay out of the way of that voice, then the writer will convey what he's trying to put across. So for me, it's really more about enabling the text and what the author is trying to say."""
