He received his B. Eng. from Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute, Qiqihar, China, M. Eng. from Xian Jiao Tong University and Ph.D. from Tianjin University in 1985, 1990 and 1996, respectively. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China, and a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, UK.
