Reviews

Valerie Patterson does not just paint outstanding, skillfully rendered watercolor paintings. She produces paintings that make you think: sometimes to shudder at the brutal reality they portray, other times to get a glimpse of life through the eyes of a child. I, personally, admire her ability to go way beyond simply creating art. - Sandra Hildreth, Adirondack Artist Created with a highly skilled and meticulous hand, Valerie Patterson's watercolor paintings reveal a profound intelligence at work. Unafraid to use art to deliver sometimes withering, always unhackneyed, sociopolitical commentary, Valerie manages through deft use of color and juxtaposition of past with present both to inform and challenge her viewers, exposing the vulnerable with remarkable sensitivity, compassion, and poignancy while also commanding acknowledgment of our power to change. - Maureen Doallas, Writer and Poet; Curator, Arts & Faith Ministry Luminous, haunting, raw - the work of Valerie Patterson takes hold of your heart. Her beautiful work captures the sublime moment and pulls one in to contemplate the human condition. Patterson seeks to stimulate dialog through powerful imagery and subject matter to raise consciousness and encourage positive change. - Karen M. Gutfreund, Curator
