Author Information

Jessie Groeschen is a professional artist who has competed in over 30 extreme chainsaw and power sculpting contests. She is an active member of the Artists' Cooperative Gallery of Whidbey Island, Washington. In 2002, she became the first foreigner to compete in Japan's Chainsaw Carving Championships. In 2003, Jessie earned first place in the premier Women in Art: Chainsaw Series. Jessie was the first woman to place in the top 10 of the Judges' Choice category at the nation's largest chainsaw competition, West Coast, The Big One! Jessie has also competed in the first English Open Chainsaw Caving Championships and was recognized by Seattle's Folklife Festival in a group exhibit. Her work has been featured on national media outlets, such as ESPN. In addition to carving, Jessie also writes to promote chainsaw carving as an art form. Jessie was the founding editor of The Cutting Edge newsletter for the Cascade Chainsaw Sculptors Guild, and has also written articles for Chip Chats and Woodcarving UK.
