In the 23rd century... Henry Plaack and Heitor Guimares are two castaways, marooned on the colony world of Aurora after being thrown off the crew of the starship Gu Tian. But their lives have taken radically different turns. Henry is now a rich man, able to go wherever he wants and no longer in need of forgiveness. Heitor is a poor man, living on the beach with a motley group of refugees, doing dangerous jobs for cash. But now Henry re-enters Heitor's life with a mysterious offer. He and his friends will be given a second chance, requiring a lengthy journey to the primitive colony of Mumford's World, rumoured to be a place of repression, violence and slavery. Heitor takes the offer. What else can he do?
