Overview

Milton A. Raven, Sr. has spent most of his life in and around the community he loves to call home. Archery is an African American community that has a rich history. It had an Agricultural College that was started back in the early 1900's by an African American self-help organization called the Sublime order of Archery. Archery was a community where neighbors helped each other and pulled together to make it through difficult times. There was plenty of hard work but there was also time for fun, recreation and relaxation. This book shares a son of the soil account of what made this community such a great place to live, work and play. Archery was home to Bishop William D. Johnson, the 42nd elected Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. It is also the community where Jimmy Carter the 39th President of the United States spent his boyhood. Milton shares the contributions of many others whose lives were nurtured and shaped in this little community just southwest of Plains, Georgia. Every aspect of life in Archery has been captured on the pages of this book. There is a sweet spirit about Archery and that spirit still exists today.
