Applications of Nanotechnology in Plant Disease Management

Overview

This book explores the rapidly evolving field of nanobiotechnology and its applications in plant health and agricultural sustainability. Focusing on nanomaterials and nano-sensors, the book presents strategies for the detection, diagnosis and management of plant diseases, foodborne pathogens and agricultural pests. Chapters delve into the use of nanodevices for early disease detection, nano-pesticides for targeted treatment and bio-nanosensors for monitoring microbial contaminants in food systems. This book further highlights the role of biogenic and polymeric nanomaterials as effective fertilizers, fungicides and protective agents against plant-parasitic nematodes and microbial infections. This book also addresses critical issues of nanoparticle toxicity and ecological safety, providing a balanced view on the risks and benefits of nanotechnology in agriculture. This edited volume is designed for graduate students, researchers, agronomists, plant pathologists and nanotechnologists. This volume offers practical reference for integrating nanoscience into plant protection systems. It also serves as a guide for policymakers and agri-tech professionals seeking sustainable, high-precision solutions for global food security.

Author Information

Dr. Mohamed A. Mosa is currently working as a senior researcher at Plant Pathology Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Egypt. He was granted a scholarship to study his Ph.D. at Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular de Plantas (IBMCP), Polytechnic University of Valencia (CSIC-UPV), Spain. His research has focused on mycology, molecular plant pathology and nanobiotechnology. Dr. Mosa's groundbreaking work has resulted in a one issued patent to his credit from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, 2023. He constructed an ultra-sensitive nanosensor microbial detection device. He has many international publications, including high impact papers, book chapters, and a published book. Dr. Mosa has been awarded “The Award of Excellence” in “Innovative Nanotechnology” by the UPV, Spain in 2015. He has also received the Excellence and Recognition Award from the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in 2019. Dr. Synan AbuQamar earned his PhD from the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Purdue University, Indiana, USA, where he also completed his postdoctoral training. Since 2019, he has served as a professor at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). Dr. AbuQamar focuses on elucidating the molecular and cellular mechanisms of plant immunity, particularly in response to necrotrophic pathogens. His research centers economically significant crops such as tomato and date palm to better understand host-pathogen interactions. With over 125 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, Prof. AbuQamar is internationally recognized for his significant contributions to plant molecular biology and plant pathology. Acknowledging his global impact, Prof. AbuQamar has been consistently ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide, as recognized by Stanford University.
