Overview

"From the time of the Counts of Dießen and Andechs, one of the most powerful dynasties of the Middle Ages, which produced, among others, St Hedwig of Silesia and St Elisabeth, comes the foundation of the treasure of relics kept in Andechs to this day, to which the name ""Holy Mountain"" refers and to which pilgrimages have been made since 1128. Duke Albrecht III founded the Benedictine monastery in 1455, which was abolished in 1803 and revived in 1850 with the Benedictine Abbey of St. Boniface in Munich. The late Gothic church was decorated in rococo by Johann Baptist Zimmermann and other famous artists of the time in 1755 to mark the 300th anniversary of the abbey's founding. Accompany Abbot Johannes Eckert through the Andechs pilgrimage and monastery church and let the reflection on the diverse and rich art lead you into the depths of Christian spirituality."
