Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationDr. Lenahan became interested in mathematics early on by counting pennies, then following batting averages of his favorite baseball players. He taught himself college algebra and calculus in high school, then went on to M.I.T. to earn SB & SM degrees in EE, specializing in antennas and communication science. He turned back to mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Mathematical Physics, and earned a PhD degree in Applied Mathematics. Upon graduating, he joined Bell Labs to develop new technologies, involving studies of transmission over optical fibers, cellular communication, and interference effects in microelectronics. He retired from Bell Labs as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff and per agreement, carried over programs he developed in Microelectronics to Cadence Design Systems. Along the way, Lenahan taught technical courses, from undergraduate to graduate, at a few Institutes of Technology and elsewhere. He also coached High School students in Mathematics on several occasions. His book on Geometry started from curiosity about how certain results change with Geometric setting and has been a couple years in the making.
