Overview

People have become increasingly connected online and through mobile devices in various aspects of their lives. Therefore, having proper and effective cybersecurity has become paramount, especially over the last few years. With the availability of social security numbers, date of births, bank accounts, and financial information online, identity theft is a painful reality for people across the world. Hackers and phishers are always on the prowl in the current social media era. Additionally, our recent presidential election showed how vulnerable governmental online databases and systems really are. This book is intended to inform users, employees, and business owners how they can best protect themselves from cyber criminals and the precautions that should be taken. You will also read about how cybersecurity is (and should be) enforced in various fields, and important updates on advancements made in cybersecurity. Here are the objectives upon completion of this book: -Learn about the history, definition, emergence and importance of cybersecurity. -Be aware of the various types of cybercrimes. -Read important news and statistics regarding hacking, espionage, phishing, etc. -Protect your mobile devices and social media accounts. -Differentiate between cybersecurity and network security. I hope that you will have a productive and rewarding experience learning and reading about the increasingly vital topic of cybersecurity.

Author Information

David Miller is an instructional designer in Tampa, Florida. He was educated at home by his mother, a certified teacher and experienced instructional designer. From kindergarten to high school, David was exposed to a technology-rich learning environment with a diverse curriculum. In addition to classroom instruction he had the opportunity to learn from using the computer, the Internet, CDs, field trips and self-directed projects. At fifteen David took the SAT examination and scored high enough to be accepted at most universities. But based on parental advice he enrolled at Hillsborough Community College to begin his undergraduate education. Upon graduation from the University of South Florida he received a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology. After obtaining his first degree, David decided to pursue a master's degree in the field of education; specifically to design educational courses and programs. He selected Walden University and enrolled in the fall of 2011. In January 2014, David graduated with an MS in Instructional Design and Technology. To date he works in instructional design/e-learning industry as an independent contractor, and has designed several courses for in class and online delivery. He has also authored technical books.
